Disease Prevention and Control Specialist
About the Job:This role is responsible for coordinating disease prevention and control efforts, working under the supervision of senior public health officers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public health, epidemiology, or medicine, with at least five years of experience in disease investigation, surveillance, and control.
The successful candidate will facilitate the development of sustainable strategies for improving health systems and capacity building in communicable and non-communicable disease control. They will also coordinate the adoption of norms, standards, guidelines, and tools to support the implementation of disease control projects.
This position requires excellent analytical and organizational skills, as well as the ability to provide clear advice and guidance to multiple stakeholders and partners. The candidate should have expertise in strategically planning, coordinating, and supporting the implementation of health program interventions.
The job entails analyzing and evaluating diverse data and information related to communicable and non-communicable diseases, identifying disease sources, and providing recommendations and reports on appropriate responses to identified risks and preventative measures.
The specialist will also monitor the national burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases, coordinate the development or enhancement of existing information systems, and promote universal health coverage (UHC). Additionally, they will serve as a technical communication focal point with the public on communicable diseases in the country and establish new community outreach activities.
This role requires strong knowledge of WHO's policies, practices, guidelines, and procedures in related disease control areas, as well as the ability to apply them in the country office setting. The ideal candidate should have expertise in health and safety regulations and be able to develop and promote collaborative multi-sectoral partnerships and mobilize resources.
The position comes with a competitive salary package, including an annual base salary starting at USD 70,212, plus a variable post adjustment. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
Required Skills and Qualifications:- A university degree in a relevant field such as public health, epidemiology, medicine, or statistics.
- A minimum of five years of work experience relevant to the position, focusing on disease investigation, surveillance, and control, as well as developing strategies and action plans for implementing capacity building and disease prevention programs.
