The mission of the Health Emergencies Programme is to assist countries and coordinate international action to prevent, prepare for, detect, rapidly respond to, and recover from outbreaks and emergencies. The programme aims to strengthen national health systems and improve health outcomes through evidence-based policies and interventions.
Main Responsibilities
- Work under the supervision of a senior public health officer and/or the head of the WHO country office.
- Facilitate the efficient management and coordination of expertise to provide technical advice on developing sustainable strategies for improving health systems and capacity building in communicable and non-communicable disease control.
- Recommend plans for disease prevention and control interventions across the life course and continuum of care.
- Coordinate the adoption of norms, standards, guidelines, and tools to support disease control projects.
- Manage operational aspects of related research, surveillance, epidemiology, and health surveys.
- Facilitate project implementation for disease control, including setting priorities, monitoring workplans, budgets, and team performance.
- Guide documenting and disseminating best practices and partners' experiences.
- Analyse and evaluate data and information related to communicable and non-communicable diseases; identify disease sources and recommend responses.
- Monitor national disease burdens and develop or enhance existing information systems on communicable and noncommunicable diseases.
- Serve as a technical communication focal point with the public on communicable diseases.
- Facilitate procurement of safe medicines and technologies.
Required Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as public health, epidemiology, medicine, or statistics is essential. Training or specialization in communicable and noncommunicable diseases is desirable.
Experience: A minimum of five years of work experience in disease investigation, surveillance, and control, as well as developing strategies and action plans for implementing capacity building and disease prevention programmes is required. Demonstrated professional experience providing technical services to national counterparts, ministries of health, and other partners is desirable.

Benefits
Staff at the Professional category enjoy an annual base salary starting at USD 70,212, a variable post adjustment, and other benefits including 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
