
Public Health Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Public Health Officer to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in preventing and controlling communicable and non-communicable diseases. This position requires strong technical expertise and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating the efficient management and coordination of expertise to provide technical advice on the development of sustainable strategies for health systems and capacity building. They will also coordinate the adoption of norms, standards, guidelines, and tools to support disease control projects. Additionally, they will manage operational aspects related to research, surveillance, epidemiology, and health surveys. The Public Health Officer will guide the implementation of projects, monitor progress, and evaluate workplans, budgets, and team performance. They will also analyze and evaluate data related to communicable and non-communicable diseases and identify sources of disease outbreaks. Furthermore, they will monitor national burdens of communicable and non-communicable diseases and develop information systems to track progress towards universal health coverage. The officer will serve as a technical communication focal point with the public on communicable diseases and establish community outreach activities. Finally, they will facilitate procurement of safe medicines and technologies and advocate for partnerships to address disease prevention and control.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, candidates must have a university degree in a relevant field, such as public health, epidemiology, medicine, or statistics. A minimum of five years of work experience in a similar field is required, with a focus on disease investigation, surveillance, and control. Demonstrated professional experience providing technical services to national counterparts, ministries of health, and other partners is desirable. Strong analytical and organizational skills are essential, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will also possess knowledge of country situations related to communicable and non-communicable diseases and WHO policies, practices, guidelines, and procedures.
