About the Role

As a Public Health Officer, you will play a critical role in helping countries prevent, prepare for, detect, rapidly respond to, and recover from outbreaks and emergencies.

The World Health Organization's Health Emergencies Programme is focused on improving health systems and capacity building in communicable and non-communicable disease control. As a member of this team, you will work under the direct supervision of a senior public health officer or head of the WHO country office.

  • Manage the operational aspects of related research, surveillance, epidemiology, and health surveys.
  • Coordinate the adoption of norms, standards, guidelines, and tools to support disease control projects.
  • Develop and implement projects for disease control, including setting priorities, targets, monitoring, and evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate efficient management and coordination of expertise to provide technical advice on strategy development and implementation.
  • Recommend plans for inclusion of disease prevention and control interventions across the life course and continuum of care.
  • Analyse and evaluate diverse data and information related to communicable and non-communicable diseases and outbreaks.
  • Maintain awareness of national burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases and factors through health information systems and health research activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (public health, epidemiology, medicine, statistics).
  • Minimum five years of experience in a related field, with demonstrated professional experience providing technical services to national counterparts and other partners.
Skills and Qualities
  • Technical knowledge of communicable and non-communicable diseases, including prevention, control, and treatment methods.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
