In partnership with the Australian Defence Force, we are seeking a Property and Asset Services (PAS) Base Operations Manager to oversee & manage our team in the RAAF Pearce Military Area.

About the role   

As the Property and Asset Services (PAS) Base Operations Manager, you will lead and manage the delivery of maintenance and operational services of the PAS package of works which includes land management and trades & services.  This role ensures compliance with safety, environmental, financial, and contractual obligations while driving innovation, customer satisfaction, and a high-performance culture aligned with Defence and Ventia strategic objectives. 

Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):    

  • Operational Leadership: Oversee daily Defence PAS Base operations to meet contractual and legislative requirements. Manage budgets and financials for efficient service delivery. Collaborate with procurement to enhance supplier performance and ensure compliance with Defence standards, policies, and agreements.
  • Team Development & Culture: Lead a large technical maintenance team, promoting a high-performance, safety-first culture. Provide hands-on leadership through mentoring, daily huddles, and pre-starts. Foster collaboration across teams and regions to drive shared success.
  • Emergency & Risk Management: Lead emergency management and business continuity planning activities to ensure preparedness and resilience. Coordinate technical recovery plans in response to critical events, enabling rapid restoration of services and minimising operational disruption. 
  • Performance & Innovation: Drive innovation and continuous improvement to boost efficiency and service quality. Track KPIs, embed best practices, and lead initiatives for commercial compliance and long-term sustainability.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate and lead regular stakeholder engagement meetings to ensure alignment, transparency, and strong working relationships. Engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders to support collaborative decision-making and continuous improvement.  

About you   

  • 7+ years' experience in a similar operational leadership rol
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or equivalent trade desirable but not essential 
  • Proven experience in Defence or complex environments
  • Visible and engaging leader 
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and safety culture development
  • Skilled in managing geographically dispersed teams
  • Financially astute with contract compliance experience
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Experienced in emergency and continuity planning
  • A commitment to safety, compliance, and customer satisfaction.

Must be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance. As a result of this requirement the applicant must be an Australian Citizen and be willing to undertake and maintain a satisfactory Australian Federal Police.
