At cinfo, we are committed to providing protection and support to individuals in need. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that everyone has access to basic human rights, including documentation, education, and services.

We are seeking an experienced Associate Protection Officer to join our team. As a key member of our protection unit, you will be responsible for providing critical support to refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Afghanistan.

The Associate Protection Officer will oversee core protection functions, including reception, registration, refugee status determination (RSD), resettlement (RST), and complementary pathways. You will also provide technical support for national reception and asylum procedures.

As a member of our team, you will work closely with national staff, institutions, NGOs, and individuals to enhance national protection and rights advocacy. Your expertise will help us promote community-based approaches, risk management, and capacity-building efforts.

This position is part of the Swiss JPO Programme, sponsored by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The programme offers a three-year allocation period, with one reassignment opportunity and a rest and recuperation cycle of four weeks.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining awareness of political, social, economic, and cultural developments affecting protection environments and advocating for relevant legal standards and policies.
  • Providing legal guidance and advice to individuals, ensuring proper documentation and liaison with authorities for issuance.
  • Overseeing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for protection activities, including registration, eligibility assessments, status determination, and individual case management.
  • Managing and coaching national staff in RSD and RST processes, ensuring quality and timely execution.
  • Promoting community-based approaches, risk management, and capacity-building efforts to support relevant institutions, NGOs, and individuals.

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Master's degree in International Law or International Refugee and Human Rights Law.
  • A minimum of three years' relevant experience, including experience in refugee protection, internal displacement, human rights, or international humanitarian law.
  • Good knowledge of International Refugee and Human Rights Law and ability to apply relevant legal principles.
  • Field experience, including working directly with communities.
  • Good IT skills, including database management and the Protection Learning Programme.

We offer a competitive salary of approximately $80,000 per year, based on the market rate in Afghanistan. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team and contribute to meaningful projects that make a difference in the lives of individuals in need.
