Main Responsibilities

The Technical Officer - Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) will be responsible for conducting emergency rapid assessments for WASH activities and providing technical expertise to health partners. The incumbent will ensure that WASH interventions are effective in interrupting transmission and containing outbreaks.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Conduct emergency rapid assessments for WASH activities, including water, hygiene, sanitation, and vector control, to identify gaps and propose remedial actions.
  2. Provide technical expertise to health partners on WASH, coordinating with WASH clusters to ensure adequate interventions.
  3. Conduct WASH activities in response to water-borne disease outbreaks, working closely with WASH clusters.
  4. Provide onsite support to ensure the implementation of recommended infection control activities in health facilities.
  5. Ensure that WASH, vector control, and infection control set up in health facilities are conducted according to Sphere and WHO Standards.
  6. Secure water, hygiene, sanitation, and infection control for health activities within the WASH cluster.
  7. Conduct required training for MOPH staff and WHO partners to build local competences and facilitate compliance with WASH standards.
  8. Draft required evaluation or situation reports to ensure appropriate communication with OSL lead and technical experts.
Requirements

Education:
• Essential: First university degree in engineering, health, or humanitarian logistics from an accredited institute, with specialization in water and sanitation.
• Desirable: Advanced university degree in public health, water, sanitation, and hygiene, or degree/training in computer applications in water and sanitation project design and related database systems.

Experience:
• Essential: A minimum of five years of relevant experience in design and implementation of water and sanitation assessments and/or design and management of related projects in emergency situations, with proven international exposure.

Skills:
• Demonstrated knowledge of emergency response situations in water and sanitation with proven ability to identify and solve technical problems in difficult circumstances.
