At the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics we know our technologies like the back of our hand. Because we are one of the few scientific institutions worldwide to conduct research along the entire semiconductor value chain and on tailer-made synthetic diamonds. Whether high-frequency circuits for communications technology, voltage converter modules for electromobility, laser systems for measurement processes, or innovative hardware and software for quantum computers and quantum sensors: we develop tomorrow's technology in-house for a sustainable and secure society. When will you join us?In the field of quantum technology, the institute is working on the realization of a quantum computer based on color centers in diamond. Here, nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond are used to generate qubits. Using micorwave CVD, NV centers are generated by nitrogen doping during diamond growth and characterized on site at the institute with the existing measurement setups with regard to their spin properties. As part of this position, experiments will be conducted to chracterize NV centers in diamond. The goal is to determine the lifetimes of spin states at room temperature. The characterization is carried out in close collaboration with the diamond epitaxy team in order to gain insights into the influence of growth parameters on spin properties and to specifically advance material development. A continuation as a Bachelor or Master thesis is possible. What you will doYou will operate a measurement set-up for the characterization of spin properties of NV centers in diamond. You will perform photoluminescence experiments using a confocal microscope. To support the further development of growth processes for NV Centers, the evaluation of measurement results will also be part of your work. You will also be responsible for the documentation of measurement data. What you bring to the tableenrolled student in the field of physics, microsystems engineering or a similar subjectbasic programming skills, preferably in Pythongood language skills in German or Englishenjoy experimental and scientific workteam player, open-minded and motivated to work independently and purposefullyWhat you can expectmodern laboratory equipment in a new laboratory buildingon-site programming support from expertsflexible time management that fits your studiescollaboration in an interdisciplinary team, including working on current projects with clear objectivesan open and team-oriented corporate culture that offers you the opportunity to contribute your own ideasdiverse and exciting tasks in the environment of an internationally renowned research institutionFrelo station (bike renting system) and parking spaces with charging stationsThe weekly working time is 40-80 hours.
