Job Title: Proving Test Engineer/Senior Associate Engineer
Salary: £38,832 + (depending on experience)
Location : Peterborough

About IPSD
Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Proving Test Engineer to join our Caterpillar team and have a direct impact on the success of our Internal Machine Reliability Group (IMRG) team. As part of our L5&L6 development team in Global Engine Development (GED), you will be involved in a variety of engine installation and test projects into off-highway machines and generator sets. Primarily covering mechanical and electrical engine to machine integration, shakedown and test. The role is based in our Europe Research & Development Centre at the Caterpillar Business Park, Peterborough, UK.

What You Will Do:

  • Adhere to the Organization's health and safety policy and safe working practices
  • Adhere to Caterpillar's Values in Action: Integrity, Commitment, Excellence, Teamwork & Sustainability
  • Effectively manage several engine/machine integration projects simultaneously
  • Operate a multitude of different off-highway vehicles including but not limited to, Hydraulic Excavators, Back-hoe Loaders, Telehandlers, Track Type Tractors where required
  • Diagnose and fix a range of faults on both engine and machine
  • Work from engineering drawings (electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic)
  • Produce electrical looms to interface engine and machine
  • Travel to various off-site test and development facilities both CAT owned, and 3rd Party (some overseas).
  • Keep the work area clean, tidy and safe
  • Undertake training and further learning as required

What You Have:
Degree requirement:

  • Engineering degree or relevant experience with increasing responsibility

Effective Communication:

  • Must have ability to communicate effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as employees in other units, customers, and suppliers

Engineering:

  • Demonstrable high level of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical/electronic aptitude with a good working knowledge of engines and machines

Standard Operating Procedures:

  • A good working knowledge of instrumentation and its application

Desired Skills:

  • Have a fully flexible approach to the job role & responsibilities
  • Prepared to undertake required training/learning
  • Good PC skills ability to use Microsoft Office and in-house developed software
