Job summary

AJO is looking for 4 individuals for its vacancies who will work in Kabul. Eligible applicants can read the details and apply accordingly.

The Legal Advisor will be responsible, under the direct guidance of the Program Manager, to provide full support for implementing the project and follow up to all activities under ADALAT project. The Legal Advisor will actively participate and work with all Project Team in order to contribute to a high-quality product implemented by ADALAT/AJO.

Job description
  • Perform needs assessment for the training programs with the stakeholders.
  • Prepare and evaluate training and training materials. Training curriculum may include role-plays, simulations, case studies and other practical skills, and pre-and post-testing.
  • Undertake training or help recruit suitable trainers for skills and knowledge development training in accordance with AJO training methodology, including post-training assessments.
  • Provide intensive, individual, case-specific legal and relating advice to AJO and stakeholders on the training programs.
  • Partake in designing and reviewing strategy and work plan activities as per changing needs, priorities, and potential effectiveness and feasibility of activities and initiatives.
  • Participate in the working group, coordination, or other meetings as assigned to remain up-to-date about current relevant developments affecting the justice sector in the country.
  • Oversee legal and legislative developments, and recommend reforms to current and draft laws relevant to mandates of the AJO.
  • Develop and maintain contacts and relationships with partners, stakeholders, and counterparts to assure effective implementation of work plan activities and objectives.
  • Submit weekly and monthly activity reports based on AJO reporting requirements.
  • Assist in oral and written translation of legal documents or correspondence, as required.
  • Build and maintain contacts and relationships with partners, stakeholders, and counterparts to ensure effective implementation of work plan activities and objectives
  • Assist in the preparation of (Weekly, Monthly, and Annual) progress reports using the template recommended by the donor.
Job Requirements:
  1. Education
  • Master’s Degree in Law with three-year work experience. Bachelor’s Degree in Law with five years of work experience (assisting, working or being part of an organization) to the legal aid sector in Afghanistan).
  • Legal training courses will be an advantage.
  1. Qualifications, experience and skills:
  • Understanding of pertinent Afghan laws (Substantive and Procedural), formal justice system and the right to a defense lawyer and legal assistance regulation.
  • Knowledge of justice sector institutions.
  • Updated knowledge of legal aid issues in Afghanistan.
  • Great interpersonal, presentation and program communication skills.
  •  Excellent competency in written and spoken English, Pashto and Dari.
  • Ability in working with relevant computer programs (MS, database, internet, outlook, PowerPoint presentation, excel).
  • Good research skills
  • Program management knowledge (planning, preparation, implementation, M&E and reporting).
  • Dedication and teamwork spirit.
  • Flexible to travel to provinces.
